Kingsley the Clown!!

Kingsley went in to be groomed again and his fab groomer just got new dog dye blow pens!  She was so excited I told her she could do whatever she wanted to his mohawk :D

The kids just freaking LOVE his clown mohawk!  And we get so many chances to educate the public about service dogs.

Oodles :)

I've been training a Labradoodle w/ PAD and he and Kingsley are best buddies!  Since one's a Doodle and the other is a Poodle, I now refer to them as the Oodles!  Here they are today waiting for me to get back to working on my laptop after a phone call.

Physical Therapy

Kingsley's orthopedic veterinarian has recommended 6-8 weeks of Physical Therapy.  He goes in every Friday at 11:30 am and when they call I get to go back for him.  Each PT session is with the same veterinary technician that specializes in canine rehabilitation.  His PT is Kyle, and Kingsley loves going and is happy when I come back - so I know they're having a great time!  I've known Kyle for about 5 years, and love the way he handles dogs.  You can read all about where Kingsley is going for PT (thank God it is our primary vet clinic!!) and even see his PT Kyle in some of the photos, here!

Each session Kingsley receives: weight baring study, stretching, hydrotherapy, k-laser treatment and more but my mind is drawing a blank.  He loves going and that makes it so much easier to leave him!

Photoshoot Preview Posted!!

I am so ecstatic about my photoshoot preview on Facebook!  I am ecstatic and beyond words!  This is truly the greatest gift for Kingsley and I!!

You can see them all, here!

Photoshoot and Grooming

Kingsley rocked his photoshoot today with Jessica Cobb Pet Photography!  I loved the photographer and her assistant (her husband who is also a photographer!).  We had a ton of laughs and awesome memories!  I can't wait for her to post a sneak peak - AND to see all of the photos!

Since Kingsley enjoys being outside and playing in water so much, I decided to trim him shorter all over, and his topknot...into a MOHAWK!!!

Thanks to Lisa at the Salty Dog Salon for rocking - as always!  By the way, it's just food coloring! ;)

New Harness - LOVE!

This is Kingsley's new custom harness from Stinky Dog Gear - and boy are we in love!  The front buckle is the same as the Easy Walk Harness by Premier, but the back offers a great quick handle and ring so that my attendant can help safety wise while I get in and out of the van.  They offer tons of colors and even one lined w/ fleece!  We just LOVE this harness!

Kingsley's Eye Test!

Thanks to the National Service Dog Eye Exam program, all of our service dogs in training and working service dogs get to have free annual eye exams!

Kingsley's eyes are perfect and he was an absolute champ for the dilation and exam!

After the tests we went out for icecream! :) I didn't get any photos at the clinic but a friend got this of us later :)

Orthopedic Veterinary Appointment

Kingsley was seen by Canine Sports/Working Orthopedic Veterinarian (say that 10 times fast!) Dr. Lotsikas today.  The doctor told us he likes to hear the history, do his physical and any x-rays before he looks at the primary vets report, so that he doesn't go into it with a preconceived idea about what happened.  He spent about 20 minutes listening to Kingsley's history, from the day he broke his toe, until today all the while petting and bonding with him.

He then did a full physical exam.  At that point, Dr. Lotsikas noted that Kingsley was not baring any weight on his injured leg.  You can literally move it back and his entire body posture doesn't change.  On the contrary, when you lift his other back leg he must shift his weight drastically.  In addition, he found a tender spot in his back over his spine.

The entire appointment was around 2 hours and we are waiting for his formal report which will have a thorough explanation of their findings and recommendations.

We loved CARES and recommend them for any specialty needs!

Long Training Day

Kingsley has been taking a lot of time off until we get his leg/toe issue worked out.  He did accompany me to PAD's 2nd Annual Spring Fling!  We were there 11am - 5pm and he did amazing!  Here he is with me, and my mom with her SDIT!

Kingsley's Birthday

Kingsley went to the vet on his birthday for his toe issues, but we had fun with gifts and pictures :) Kingsley got three new nylabones, a new collar and special treats!!

He will be going to see an orthopedic specialist since he's limping on and off.  I'll post updates as we get them!

Lap and Snuggle

Kingsley is quite the snuggler, but only when it comes to me.  He's very in tune with me, never stands on my feet, and always remembers to come close enough for my limited range of motion.

Poof Head!

Kingsley's topknot is finally big enough to go in a pony!! We're pretty excited :)

Life is good!

Today,  Kingsley had a good buddy at the groomers with him!  PAD Davy is a 7 month old Labradoodle.  His volunteer trainers been having a hard time keeping him clean in a traditional doodle coat, so I said "let's try a poodle cut!".

Low and behold, we all are getting a kick out of how much like a poodle he looks!!

1st Meeting!

Well, I finally felt like Kingsley and I are doing well enough together to bring him to a business meeting today!  He was PERFECT and i'm so glad I decided to try!  We arrived 30 minutes early, and the meeting was a little over an hour long.  Kingsley remained in an under/down/stay for the entire meeting!  He also settled a lot quicker than our last time in a cafĂ©.  (I think last time it took around 6 minutes, this time was 3 max!).  Here he is right after he went under and laid down.   He's such a dream.

almost 10 months old

Life Getting Back To Normal

Kingsley and I are finally feeling a bit more caught up from the hustle and bustle of the December To Remember (or perhaps not because it was so busy I can't quite even remember it!).  He handled the holidays well, nothing extraordinary to write about!

Today we did an outing at Target, again completely working on my wheelchair.  We've been doing so great with it that last week we went to Toys R Us!  It was PACKED with kids and he did great!!

During todays trip while Kingsley and I were in line (moments after the photo below was taken) a woman came up quickly behind us, bent down and used his back to bare her weight on while reaching for something on the low shelf.   He handled it perfectly by looking up at me and while he showed concern he didn't startle at all!  Good boy!

PS he was due to be groomed lol!
